Irwin Miller 301 Washington St. Columbus, Indiana Dear Mr. Miller, The Cleo Rogers Memorial Library is nearing completion. We anticipate moving into the new building shortly after the middle of July. The old building will then be demolished and work will commence on the plaza area. As you probably know, a turn-a-round coming off of Fifth Street has been planned for the plaza area. This turn-a-round is to be used principally for patron loading and unloading. Initially, the Library Board had hoped to be able to place a suitable piece of sculpture in the center of this turn-a-round. When our bids for the new building came in higher then expected, we had to shelve this project because of shortage of funds. With the building nearing completion, the open space between the First Christian Church and the new Library becomes much more obvious. The Board and the architect feel a sculpture of sufficient scale would both enhance this space and create an important focal point. It appears that we will complete the whole project with just enough money to plant some additional trees around the parking area. Therefore, we will not have the funds to consider a sculpture of this magnitude. The purpose of this letter is to ask if you would consider funding of this sculpture.
