Bob Weber's "Irwin Block"
1. Building Last winter Bob Weber mentioned that he would like to repaint the “Irwin Block" Building (north side of Fifth Street between Franklin and Washington), and wondered if Mr. Girard had any recommendations since the present paint scheme for that building was a part of Mr. Girard's downtown plan. We told him that we would ask Mr. Girard to take a look next time he was in town.
2. Last week Mr. Girard looked at the building. His initial reaction was that the building should be sandblasted and returned to natural red brick finish to harmonize with City Hall, Visitors Center and the new Citizens Savings & Loan building.
3. In a conversation today with Bob Weber, I told him that Mr. Girard had looked at the building and that he felt maybe sandblasting would be preferable to painting. After making sure that Mr. Girard's advice would not cost him anything, Weber said that he would like to pursue this idea in more detail, with a view toward doing either sandblasting or painting the building late this summer or early this fall.
4. I told Weber that I would ask Mr. Girard to show the suggested new color scheme on a drawing of the building so that he and Mrs. Weber could review it and decide.
5. Mr. Girard has photos and drawings of the Irwin Block Building. He will put'the suggested new scheme (including window trim, etc.) on a drawing and we'll be back in touch with Mr. Weber by June 15.
6. Bob Weber did not mention a color scheme for the old Republic building. We are prepared to assist him with some suggestions if he does ask.
